Politically Correct! PDF Print E-mail

I am really tired of having to think about, and be, politically correct, every time I speak. How about just be kind and do onto others.  In the past few years especially around the holidays it really starts up. Don’t say Merry Christmas say Happy Holidays because unless you know someone’s religious belief, you may insult them.  Oh, let’s all just grow up!  If I say Merry Christmas, then you know what I believe in.  If you then say Happy Chanukah, then I know what you believe.  I have always tried to judge a person for who they are by how they act and not for what they believe in or there ethnic background.  An [censored] is an [censored], no matter what color your skin is, where you were born or to what God you pray.

Now to my point, it is my understanding that our City Council does not want a religious symbol at the fire station because it would be a distraction.  Come on, the only way you can read the electronic sign that’s already there, and not cause an accident, is if you are stopped at the light.  Distraction; not!  Then I thought maybe its city property they are trying to avoid.  They do want to be politically correct.  Then I heard that City Hall has a Nativity scene. City property; not the issue!

Maybe it’s because the City is afraid that everyone will want to put up their own religious symbols?

Ok, so what if they do?

I just had this discussion at work the other day.  Someone said, “so what if they believe in Satan, would it be ok for them to put up their symbol?”  I had to think about it for a minute, and then I said, “Well then, we would know what they believe.”

To each there own, no matter what each one of us thinks about it.  For me, belief is an individual experience, not something that can only be found at Church or from a certain religion.

Christmas in my opinion is for the children.  Once they are grown up and gone, what are we adults left with?  The lights, the change of scenery, sappy Christmas movies and your own personally beliefs.

Santa Claus (what does he stand for):  youth, innocence, presents and a reason to be good.  At least we adults can use that to our advantage for a while.

Then there are those that don’t want to believe in anything.  My question is why would anyone not want to believe in something?  For me that seems kind of pointless.

Watch the news or read the internet.  It is all so depressing.  In my opinion, if this is all there is, then that is the saddest thing of all.  Why not believe in something, a better place can be a comforting thought in this mixed up world that we live in and endure every day.

City Council, let them put up whatever they want.  Just let it have lights and that way it will give some people, something to talk about!!
